Hi, I have a model that has a great many polygons because of a number of reasons including the fact that I used Booles and other deformers.bottom line.I need to reduce the number so that I can animate the model without slowing the computer down to a crawl. Can this be done using the melt tool? I remember seeing in a post that one of the members first built high poly models and then would go in and reduce the number of polys.I thought he said that he did it with the melt tool? Basically you want to use the least amount of poly's. Also you need all of your poly's to be as even as possible(like a nice even grid). You want avoid N-Gons(poly's that have more sides than 4 sides) and try not use tri's if possible(although sometimes tri's can work to your advantage). I find working with symmetry also helps the modeling process.
There is so many things to watch out for, basically you need to practice, practice, practice. After a while your mind will get used to seeing these patterns and it will come easier.

Only wish I had some knowledge to give back haha. Feel like i am bleeding you guys haha! Here are two shots. What is going happen when finished is the bear walks over and kicks a ball through the grass which reacts accordingly and rolls into the distance and or goals. I textured the bear and ground with darker textures to compensate for the visible gaps and have tried to keep the hair count down on both the grass and hair, but any more and you see the skin underneath and it looks a bit cheap. I increased randomise and variance of the hair to contradict this as well as the camera angle.
